Major Responsibilities

01. Regulatory Responsibilities

Technical Regulation

  • Ensure highest degree of safety, secure and adequate air transport service to the public.
  • Register all civil aircraft, issue marks, and airworthiness certificates.
  • Specify type of service for which aircraft may be used.
  • Audit, inspect, license, and regulate all aerodromes and navigation facilities.

Economic & Air Transport

  • Promote and maintain efficient air transport and general aviation in the country.
  • License and regulate air transport and general aviation services.
  • Determine conditions for transport of passengers, goods, and mail.
  • Represent the Ethiopian government in bilateral-air transport agreements.

02. Service Delivery Responsibilities

Identify air routes and determine admission/departure conditions for territory.

Provide communications, navigation, surveillance, and air traffic management.

Provide flight information and refreshments service to the pilots.
