The humanitarian arm of air navigation, dedicated to the swift location and assistance of those in distress within the Ethiopian SAR region.
Operational mandate
The Search and Rescue Services Directorate operates at the highest level of alertness, maintaining constant coordination with the Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) and other safety agencies to ensure that life-saving measures are initiated immediately upon the report of a distressed aircraft or vessel.
Core functions
SAR coordination
Responsible for the conduct and coordination of aircraft search and rescue operation within the Ethiopian SAR region.
Location & RCC alignment
In conjunction with Rescue Coordination Center (RCC), locate the distressed air craft/ship in which its position is not known.
Immediate assistance
Provide first aid, water and food for persons in distress until the operator takes over responsibility of them.
