The Ethiopian Civil Avation Authority(ECAA) was established in 1944 to administer and handle all airport and civil aviation matters. On this same year Ethiopia became a founding member of International Civil Avation Organization (ICAO).
In 1951 ECAA established a training center under the project of ICAO/UNDP technical assistance program, which was later named as Ethiopian Civil Aviation Technical School. This technical school trained students in various career disciplines such as Aircraft Maintenance, Meteorology, Air traffic, Radio Maintenance and Communication. It played a very important role as a source of skilled manpower for aviation industry in Ethiopia until its closure in 1962. In a period of 1962-1980 ECAA relied on fellowship program to train itspersonnel with contemporary technological development.
It was found out that fellowship program could only help to produce few number of professionals which could not satisfy the increasing demand of skilled manpower for the industry. The Ethiopian Civil Aviation Training center was then reopened in 1980. ECAA recognizes the professional capacity required to handle the dynamics of civil aviation industry. Consequently, it has launched a professional capacity development program in line with the revitalization of the training center.
Objectives of the Training Center
